We had quite a busy day today. Up reasonably early and caught up with a bit of hand washing. Then we had a call from Colin and Gail and we met them in Cossack at 9 a.m. We did visit Cossack the last time we were here in Point Samson but thought it worth going again. Cossack was first used by the Europeans in 1863, the port paved the way for the pastoral, pearling and mining industries. The buildings are amazing the walls are over a foot thick. There are a few of the buildings that have been restored but also some that are in ruin. We then had a look at the jetty, and guess what I saw my first turtle. It made my day. Graham got a really good photograph. I was very excited as you can imagine. We then had a look at the cemetery there are two cemetries one is for the families of the settlers and one is for the Japanese settlers who were diving for pearls. We then had a long walk along Settlers Beach. From there we had a look at the old School House and Tramway. One thing that I did not expect to see at Cossack was a Boab tree but sure enough there was one.
After Cossack we went through to Roeburne Goal and museum. Again some very interesting history and old buildings.
We got back to the van at about 1-30 p.m. and after some lunch thought we would spend an hour or so down on the beach here, well the water was beautiful but once we got out we were bombarded with sand flies. Needless to day we did not stay down there we came back to the van and sat and read for a while.
Tonight we met Colin, Gail, Craig (his brother), his dad and mother for dinner at the local pub here in Point Samson. Wednesdays is half price steak night and what a meal we had. It cost us $14 a head for the biggest T-Bone steak with sauce of your choice, chips and salad. We all enjoyed our meal and the steaks were all cooked to our choice. We are both as full as a gug.
