Had a good day today, we went to a place called Oakabella Homestead which is about 32 kms north of Geraldton. Oakabella is a National Trust property and the manager, Loretta, is passionate about the place. It is reportedly the most haunted house in Western Australia and you can do candlelight tours of the property but we decided just to have a look around. There is also camping here and I think it costs about $16 a night, but you don't get power. Loretta bakes scones (delicious) so we had morning tea and whilst eating our scones (fig and wattle) she told us the history of the place. She is very knowledgeable and we enjoyed her stories. She has been there for 14 years and calls it "A Land of Ghosts and Beautiful Scenery".
Very pleased tonight as I have been able to book onto Cape Range National Park for 9 nights. They now have online bookings for four of their sites and it saves having to get to the entrance to the park at some ungodly hour in the morning. We are going in on the 22nd July, we are hoping to be able to extend our stay once we are there but at least we have a booking for the 9 nights.
Had a BBQ with Bev and Paul for dinner as we are moving onto Kalbarri tomorrow and they are going back into the goldfields next week. They do a lot of prospecting and are very successful, Paul showed us yesterday some of the gold he has found and it is fascinating.
